Scam alert- Goa!

Exotic beaches, sun smooched sands, turquoise waters, bikini clad women, nocturnal clubs, water sports, cheap liquor and good food- Welcome to GOA, the most happening place of India.
The only thing that everyone complains about in Goa is exorbitant taxi/cab fares and renting a bike seemed to be the best option for beach hopping. It was a kind of second honeymoon for me and so I preferred the cheap alternative. Its a simple process and without paying any security deposit a sparingly used blushing red Avenger was delivered at my hotel in just a call. The rate was quite cheap @ Rs.500/- per day(excluding petrol) and we agreed to pay Rs.1500/- for 03 days in advance. Filled up the tank and for the next three days me and my wife treaded the beautiful landscapes and beaches of Goa on this cruiser.
The ‘Three days’ got over soon and I called the rental agency for returning of the bike in time. The same guy who delivered the bike came. He carried out a thorough inspection of the bike and said ‘ Ye kya mud guard todd dia apne to, Kahin accident kia kya , clutch bhi pura loose hogaya, Do hazaar rupia fine dena padega repair karne ka’ (He said I have mishandled the bike and have broken the mud guard by an accident, the cluth is totally loose. I will have to pay a sum of Rs.2000/- as fine/damage charges).
Only I knew how much care I take on the roads while driving. I was shocked to hear this and noticed the hairline crack on the mud guard as pointed out. I replied under-confidently that the condition of the bike is same as was received.
He seemed unconvinced and said ‘ Paisa to dena padega aapko’ (You will have to pay for it).
I realised that I had fallen for a scam. As a photo geek and out of my habit I had randomly taken some pictures of the Avenger bike after delivery. I zoomed in and showed him that the crack was already present during delivery. He denied and counteracted saying that the photograph was taken after I have mishandled/ broken the mudguard. I intimidatingly replied that they are trying to scam us and I will call the police. I also stated that the information stored in the photograph clearly states the date of photograph taken and ‘we will lodge a complain against your company against this fraud’.
After this he rode the bike away without making much of a noise. I was worried at first but somehow came out victorious in this ordeal.
PS- One Odd incident doesn’t lower any respect for the people of Goa and I still have high regards for them.
